Egypt welcomes return of electricity to Gaza

Egypt on Thursday 23/8/2007 welcomed the EU decision to resume financing fuel shipments to the power plant in Gaza.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit called on all parties concerned with the Palestinian problem to see to it that they do not let anything affect the best interests of the ordinary Palestinian people.

"Nothing should be allowed to affect the provision of basic services to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip," he stressed.

He reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to offering all kinds of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians.

Meantime, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said Egypt is continuing contacts with the parties concerned within the context of ongoing arrangements for an anticipated conference on the Middle East that will be held by the end of the current year at the US call.
