FM: Egypt's policy outlined according to its interests

"Egyptian policy is outlined according to the interests of the nation," said Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit in Al-Akhbar dialogue forum.

Regarding the US aid to Egypt, Abul Gheit underlined that the programme is not under a conditioned agreement. Therefore, Egypt accepts no conditions on the aid given and tolerates no interference in its internal affairs.

"Egypt is working on a global level and in coordination with the US and the UN to try reinvigorate the stalled peace process on the Palestinian territories", he said.

In this context, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will pay a visit to Egypt in September to put forward the American vision towards the deteriorating situation in the occupied land.

Egypt, for its part, is treating all Palestinian factions on an equal footing, but when the time comes, Palestinians will have to take a common stance and pull themselves out of the quagmire.

"Egypt has asked the US during the Sharm el-Sheikh conference that no party be excluded from the coming International Peace Conference", Abul Gheit noted.

As for the Sudanese file, the Minister underscored that Egypt seeks the unity of Sudan.
