Egypt strongly condemns attack on Egyptian Imam in London

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit has received with deep concern reports from London on an attack against an Egyptian Imam at the Islamic centre in london by an Irish man, the Foreign Ministry spokesman said in press statements on Tuesday 14/8/2007.

"Abul-Gheit gave instructions to the Egyptian embassy in London to closely follow up investigations carried out by the British police," the spokesman added.

The Embassy, he added, should pinpoint the reasons behind this attack against reverend Sheikh Mohammed Al-Salamoni, delegated by Al-Azhar to the Islamic Centre in London.

Abul-Gheit, added the spokesman, also asked the embassy to extend all care to Sheikh Al-Salamoni, who is now being treated at the Western Eye Hospital in Central London.
