"Egypt will not allow any quarter to meddle in its domestic affairs," said Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit on Sunday 12/8/2007.
In an interview with Egyptian Al-Mehwar satellite TV channel, the minister made it clear that the rule of law in Egypt was an unquestionable fact and that any attempt to meddle in Egyptian affairs was rejectionable.
On how far Egyptian-US relations were affected by the American side bringing up some internal issues including the case of Ayman Nour, the former head of Al-Ghad party, Abul-Gheit said despite the strength of relations between the two countries, Egypt will not allow any party, even the United States, to interfere in its domestic affairs.
Abul-Gheit meanwhile, said that Egypt did not side with any Palestinian party at the expense of the other, pointing out that Egypt continued contacts with all Palestinian factions, foremost of which are Fatah and Hamas, to calm down conditions in the Palestinian territories.
He described reports adding that Egypt backed a party at the expense of the other as unjust.
He said that Egypt and its president exerted tremendous efforts over the past months to convince the United States developing its stances towards regional issues and that Egypt "succeeded in that, and we hope for more development".
He added that the American side realised that the Palestinian cause was the crux of the Arab-Israeli conflict.
