Egypt has tabled a generous offer to the United Nations to participate in the UN military force to the African peacekeeping mission in Darfur, according to Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit.
He added the Defence Ministry agreed on sending the needed troops and increasing them if needed.
The UN had asked African countries to participate in the troops to beef up the AU mission in Darfur.
The Sudanese government agreed during a meeting in Addis Ababa on the UN participation in the peacekeeping forces in Darfur under the condition of securing the main body of troops from the African continent.
Abul-Gheit affirmed the African ability to offer needed troops to maintain peace and security in African hot spots.
The Egyptian top diplomat said Egypt was expecting the UN to respond to the African proposals.
He added that supporting the AU forces should be followed by convincing Abuja peace agreement holdouts to sign up and join the march of peace in Sudan.
Abul-Gheit added that the Egyptian government agreed on digging some 40 underground water wells in the Sudanese regions of Darfur for camps of the displaced.
