Egypt calls on international community to deal positively with the new government

Egypt called on international community to deal positively with the new Palestinian government and to take all measures necessary for its success in its new assignments atop of which are easing the sufferings of the Palestinian people and building institutions which represent the nucleus of the Palestinian State.

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit has welcomed the formation of the new government congratulating the Palestinian people for such a step which he described as supporting the Palestinian action, uprooting sedition and preserving the Palestinian blood.

The Foreign Minster expressed hope that the formation of the new Palestinian government would be a step towards shoring up truce with Israel.

At a meantime, Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit on Saturday 17/3/2007 warned of the dangers of threats to impose sanctions against Sudan.

Abul-Gheit, in press statements, said he sent urgent messages to the five Security Council permanent members, the UN General Secretariat, the African Union and the European Union calling for dealing positively with the content of a message Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir had sent to UN Chief Ban Ki-moon on his government's commitment to recent resolutions by the African Peace and Security Council.

Abul-Gheit urged all parties concerned to resume dialogue with Sudan for removing any obstacles.

The remarks were made in comments on UN discussions on development in the Darfur crisis and the stance on extending assistance to the African Commission in Darfur.

Abul-Gheit urged the international community to exert more efforts for reaching a political settlement to the Darfur crisis.
