Abul -Gheit: undermines a US report on human rights in Egypt

Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul –Gheit assured that the annual report of US State Department contains allegations related to Egypt. Those allegations are based on incorrect, inaccurate and imperfect information that are mostly related to cases still probed by the Egyptian judicial councils, and some of them are settled by the Egyptian court.

Abul-Gheit said yesterday 10/3/ 2007 that the mentioned report is issued by a party without competence, and the UN does not give the right to any country to be sponsor of the human rights status in the world.

He added that the report didn't mention positive developments that Egypt witnessed recently in human right field whether moves taken to boost the constitutional and legislative platform or to promote the institutional building, spread the human rights culture and upgrading the abilities of government bodies. The Foreign Minister stressed that the Egyptian government does not conceal any violations.

Abul-Gheit reiterated that the Egyptian-American ties are important and based on equal interests, referring to the agreement between the both countries' vision towards interest in the human rights issues.
The Foreign Minister concluded his statements by inviting all world countries which desire to issue reports about the human rights conditions to focus on its own interior human rights conditions.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit expressed Egypt's thanks and appreciation to Norway Parliament's report, and issuance of a royal decree to write off 76% of debts which amont to 185.4 billion kroner namely about $ 25.8 billion.
